Ahihi Kinau Natural Area Reserve is located on the southern coast of Maui and covers an area named Cape Kinau that extends from Ahihi Bay south to La Perouse Bay. Cape Kinau was created by the last lava flow on Maui in the very late 1700's. The road from the entrance of the park is narrow while crossing the lava flow to the end at La Perouse Bay were additional parking can be found.
Visitors can expect to see massive black lava flows which have created inland ponds, tide pools and a black lava coastline that offers some of the best snorkeling and diving on the island. The water tends to be very clear but more difficult to reach. On clear days you can see the island of Kahoolawe.
It is Prohibited:
To remove, injure or kill any form of plant or animal (no fishing).
To introduce any form of plant or animal life.
To operate, anchor or moor any motorized vessel.
