Yavapai Observation Station was originally opened in 1928 as one of the first educational and interpretive facilities at Grand Canyon National Park. The 3000 square foot structure is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures and is eligible as a National Historic Landmark. Herbert C. Maier’s “pueblo-style” architecture mimics that of architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter’s many designs in the park.
The beautifully crafted artwork, powerful photographs, and interpretive text allow park visitors to see and understand the complicated geologic story with simplicity.
